The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Delta State has approved the reopening of Ogume Grammar School.
In a letter dated July 25, 2022 and addressed to the community and signed by Mrs C.U. Ojumah the Director of Schools it says the school should resume with the first term of the 2022/2023 academic session scheduled to commence on Monday September 12, 2022.
Breaking the news to the CDC Chairman of Ogbe Ogume Chief David Agadi he said this is a welcome development and appreciated the government for the reopening of the school.
Dr Friday Otutu, Chief Chux Mogbolu and Prof Emmanuel Achuenu, (pioneer students of the school) expressed joy at the news. The trio who spoke to Ndokwa Vanguard in a separate interview said with the reopening of the school the Old Students Association of the school will plot the development chart of the school in collaboration with the school authority.
Ogume Grammar School was shut down by the government on October 14, 2021 following the wanton destruction and burning down of the school by some miscreants. A JSS student of the school lost her life. The closure was to serve as a deterrent.
Since closing down of the school the community never rested. Arrests were made; renovation of the building and other things were put in place. They are particularly happy that government has deemed it expedient to reopen the school.
