OKOWA UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF YOUNG GENERATION

Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga has said that the state Governor and vice presidential candidate of people’s Democratic Party, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa understood the needs of the younger generation.

Hon. Egwunyenga stated this on Wednesday, during the 2022 international youth Day celebration, theme: ” intergenerational solidarity: creating a world for All Ages” at Asaba.

The Hon. Commissioner height-lighted that the need to foster a successful, equitable and stronger intergenerational relations is to overcome the reported age-related barriers in various spheres of lives.

He noted that with the help of social integration, economic strengthening, political participation through partnership and collaboration, and ensuring “no one is left behind” which he said is the best fulcrum to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He added that as a State, through the kindness of our youth-loving and thinking Governor that understands the need to close the gap between various age groups in our society, we have witnessed the gradual integration of youths in all aspects of the State.

He pointed out that In the political space, we now have more young people appointed into critical offices and charged with more responsibilities. The youths have been at the center of most of this administration’s policies and programme;

That On entrepreneurship, the State Government through its various youth empowerment and engagement programmes – STEP, YAGEP, RYSA, Project GEST, ICT-YEP, TEP, WESAP, D-CARES, Agro-Value Chains and the most recently approved programme in the Ministry of Oil and Gas – is a proof of the efforts in ensuring that the youths are equipped with skills and provided the necessary support to make them self-reliant and independent. This has also given the youths a place in contributing to the growth of the economy and also employers of labour;

On education—the State Government has established more technical schools and Universities to ensure that young people have the privilege of acquiring relevant knowledge, which is critical in the growth process of any society.

These are just to mention a few. The efforts of the administration in creating an enabling environment for young people to excel in all aspects of their lives to ensure that they become responsible adults cannot be overemphasized.

He, however, call on all Deltans across all sectors to join the finishing strong mantra of the Okowa’s administration for a more prosperous State, while individually and collectively seeking for avenues to give back to our communities in our little ways.
