Students Body Debuts At Igbe Ogume

A union- National Association of Igbe Ogume Students, NAIOS has been formed at Igbe Ogume Ndokwa West Local Government, Delta State.


As the name connotes, the union is made up of students from JSS1 to tertiary institution of Igbe Ogume indigenes either by paternal or maternal affinity in and outside Nigeria.


The body was formed by Uncle Alaska Ekele in June this year in order to bring the students together, reduce youths restiveness, cultism, internet fraud and other social vices plaguing the society. It would promote healthy academic competitions, decency among the school age children and cultural promotion.


Having gathered enough orientation since June this year, election of the Executive Committee of the union was conducted on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Alaska Ekele’s residence. The election was conducted and supervised by the CDC Chairman Mr Friday Chibeze, Messrs Ernest Odibe, Lawrence Osekwe and Ishioma Osuya.

At the end of the exercise the following people emerged as the Executive Committee; Gospel Chukwunalu Ndenwa- President, Kingsley Ngwei- Vice President, Success Odineka Ossai- General Secretary, Great Odibe- Assistant General Secretary, Chinedu Ngwei- Financial Secretary and Collins Odibe as Assistant Financial Secretary.


Others were Stanley Oghonoghor- Public Relations Officer, Progress Ozegbe- Assistant Public Relations Officer, Michael Odibe- Organising Secretary and Cosmos Ochonogor as Assistant Organising Secretary.

The office of the Treasurer is vacant as the contenders were not on ground for the election.
Prior to the election, the Electoral Committee members including the organiser admonished them to take the union seriously and to shun all forms of derision and not to engage in any act capable of tarnishing the image of both members and the union.

Mr Francis Enebeli also added his voice from United Kingdom. He told them the need for them to take their academic work seriously, adding that education is the key to any successful venture. “With education you can stand tall in the society”.
In his acceptance speech, the President elect Mr Gospel Chukwunalu Ndenwa promised to carry members along and to be transparent. He enjoined parents to inform their wards of the new dawn and to encourage them to join so long they are students.
Membership form has been made available in both hard and soft copies for free of charge.


In a short while they would roll up the drum preparatory to their maiden outing on December 27, 2022 at Igbe Ogume.
It would be recalled that students body – Igbe Students Union existed in the mid 1970s to early 1990s before it died like a candle flame.


The high point of the election was taking Oath of Office by the winners.
