The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Delta State, Isaiah Bozimo Esq., has lauded the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata, for the successful hosting of the 2022 Annual Conference which held at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island Lagos.
Bozimo who fielded questions from journalists in his office at Asaba, commended the outgone President for leaving up to expectations of Lawyers across the 36 States of the Federation.
He said the theme of this year’s Conference (Bold Transitions) was particularly apt given its national importance and the current circumstances of our history as a Nation.
The Honourable Attorney-General who stated that like any human endeavour, there were bound to be a few challenges along the line, however rated the 2022 Conference, the best so far.
He commended Mr Olumide Akpata for the innovations he brought into the Nigerian Bar Association, during his tenure while congratulating his successor Mr Yakubu Maikyau SAN, whom he urged to improve upon the successes of his predecessor.
Speaking on the dynamics of work with the Staff of the Ministry of Justice and challenges encountered since his assumption of office in July 2021, the Attorney-General stated that he has had a very cordial working relationship with the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Heads of Departments and Units, and all staff of the Ministry.
Bozimo said he approached his assignment with the mind set of improving on what he met on ground for the benefit of the State.
He stated that since he came on board, he has tried to do certain things differently with the ultimate aim and benefit of their clients, the Delta State Government and the people of Delta State.
Bozimo explained that the Ministry has so far addressed the issue of provision of a working environment for staff for them to perform their duties effectively particularly those in Zonal Offices.
The Honourable Attorney-General stated that he has also provided for regular training to enhance their capacity.
He stated, “we wanted to make sure that if we are demanding good works from them, we need to make sure we give them good environment within which to perform. That was one of the good works we did. We also have regular meetings with Directors, who are required to cascade this to their various Departments and Units”.
He stated that the bottom line is that they all maintained the highest standard that they have set for themselves, pointing out that he does not dwell on challenges but on how best he could improve marginally in different areas.
Bozimo maintained that there has been a marked, overall improvement in the output of the Ministry, and promised to ensure that the Ministry finishes strong in line with the Administration’s goal.
