Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Delta state police command and civil society organization has warned all political gladiators, supporters against election violent, thuggery before, during and after the election.
The Commissioner of police, Ari Muhammed Ali and Edewor Egedege, for the civil society organization gave this warning during a one-day security stakeholders summit on hitch free elections, organized by the police, transition monitoring group (TMG) and independent national electoral commission, (INEC) at Asaba.
The police commissioner said politicians should abide by the provision of the electoral acts and ensure that all forms of untoward acts which are against the rules and regulations of electoral processes in kept
He added that the police commission will deal decisively any unscrupulous individuals involved in any form of irresponsibility.
Speaking, the Delta state coordinator of transition monitoring group (TMG), Egedege Edewor, said, the new electoral acts come with new provisions intended to safeguard innovations as well as deepen transparency on the outcome in the electoral process.
He added that the new electoral act is a timely improvement of the repealed version, advising politicians to be guided by the act in their response to electoral matters.
He urged the police and sister security agencies who are to be engaged in security services in 2023 election to ensure the protection of all and electoral materials.
While appealing to journalists to hold the principles of fairness, balance and objectivity to assist the country get it right in 2023 elections.
