Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects who broke into a school in Kontagora area of the state and stole inverter batteries, ceiling fans, and other items.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 8, 2023, said a third suspect was also arrested for receiving the stolen property.
Share this story to friends“On 24/08/2023 at about 2100hrs, based on credible intelligence received, Police operatives attached to Kontagora Area Command arrested two suspects; Shafiu Mohamed 22yrs, and Yusuf Abubakar 19yrs, both of Angwan Tukura, Kontagora,” the statement read.
“The suspects were arrested at same address on suspicion ground of school breaking at Government Science Unity College, Kontagora, and theft of items therein
“During interrogation, Shafiu narrated that within the first week of August, he was in the named school premises for a farming job given to him by a staff of the school, and on 13/08/2023, he conspired with Yusuf and gained entrance into the school through the fence
“In the process, they stole some inverter cables from the school, which was later sold to one Nura Mohammed at the rate of sixteen thousand naira.
“Similarly, on 24/08/2023 at about 2000hrs, the duo returned to the school again, broke the wall of the inverter room, and carted away four inverter batteries of about 220Ahm each, four ceiling fans, and electrical wires from the school’s dormitory
“The items were kept at an uncompleted building by a river within the area, with the intention to contact the same Nura for possible disposal. Shafiu and Yusuf claimed to be a welder and tailor respectively, and that their quest for more money led them into the crime
“In the course of the investigation, the said receiver Nura was arrested. The suspects also led the Police team to where the items were kept and the following exhibits were recovered; four luminous inverter batteries, four ceiling fans, some electrical wires, and two electrical switches
“The suspects have been transferred to SCID for discreet investigation and prosecution, while they will be arraigned in court immediately after the investigation.”
