Youths in Delta state have been advised to embrace the opportunities offered in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The state Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborewori gave the advice at the 2023 Africa Youth Day celebration, theme:”One million Next Level is Knocking: Youth-led Movement that Transcends Borders,” in Asaba.
The governor who was represented by Commissioner for Power and Energy, Hon. Jerry Ehiwario changed youths to be information-driven and widen their horizons at the opportunities offered in information communication technology.
Oborewori noted that ” Information and Communication Technology (ICT)currently rules the world that youths in the state should challenge themselves into deploying the opportunities offered by ICT to break new grounds, provide solutions to emerging challenges and stand to be counted among entrepreneurs who have brought in fresh ideas to improve on existing realities”
The Governor added that youths are major stakeholders of his M.OR.E Agenda, saying that “we cannot make meaningful progress without leaning on developing the intellect and general talents of youths in the across the state”
Gov. Oborewori, however, pledges that the state will always support the activities of the youth to actualize their programmes.
Earlier, the commissioner for youth development , Hon. Agbatemiyiro Isaac Weyini explained that the theme for this year’s celebration emphasizes the need for a successful, equitable, and stronger youth movement.
Hon. Weyimi said, the movement is aimed to reach out to young people with opportunities in health and wellbeing, Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Engagement.
He maintained “overcoming age-related barriers in various spheres such as social integration, economic strengthening or political participation through partnership is essential that collaboration between generations will ensure no one is left behind.
While he commended the state governor who “understands how important it is to close the gap between different age groups within our society and integrating youths into all aspects of the state affairs under his leadership in politics specifically”
Agbatemiyiro vowed to mentor the activities of youths to enable them unlock their respective developmental potential by mainstreaming them using the right keys provided by the ministry.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, of youth development, Ms Ngozi Mogbolu said youths must not be constraints by the geographical borders and tradition, but must work together to create solutions that will enhance the quality of life of youths individually and collectively seeking avenues to give back to our communities in their little ways
Mogbolu revealed that this year’s celebration was significant, being it first kind under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborewori the whose MORE Agenda holds exceptionally great potential to take our youths to the desired next level and to build a brighter future for young people across the state.
