Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday, commended the wife of the Inspector- General of Police, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, for working towards ensuring the sustainable welfare of families of police officers in the country.

Governor Oborevwori made the commendation when he received on an advocacy visit, the wife of the Inspector – General of Police and President of the Police Officers’ Wives’ Association, POWA, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, and her delegation to Government House, Asaba.

He commended Mrs Egbetokun for her advocacy and urged other officers’ wives to emulate the POWA President.

He said Delta State was peaceful throughout the Yuletide because of the efforts of her husband, the IGP, and officers and men of the state Command.

He said: “I am very happy this morning to receive the wife of the Inspector- General of Police who is also the President of the Police Officers’ Wives’ Association, to Delta State.

“I want to, first of all, congratulate you and your husband as the Inspector -General of Police. There has been a lot of changes since he came in.

“I can attest to it in my state that there has been peace. This December, we enjoyed peace across the state. As President of the Police Officers’ Wives’ Association, what you are doing since your husband became the IGP, is worth emulating because you have shown love not only to the Police Officers’ wives, but also to those who served as Police Officers but are gone.

“You have done very well and I commend you for your advocacy. I want to encourage you and other people in different offices either at the federal or state level to follow your footsteps.

“The love you have shown to Police Officers’ wives and trying to empower them and do other things like job and wealth creation for them, that’s something worth emulating.

“I want to say that we in Delta State are very happy with what you are doing. By doing that, you have given them hope and even Police officers will be very happy that for the risk they take to serve and protect this nation in terms of security, that if anything happens tomorrow, their wives and children are also protected.”

Earlier, Mrs Egbetokun said she was in the state on a familiarisation and advocacy visit and commended the Governor for his giant strides in the governance of the state.

She stated that Delta State holds a special place in the nation for its significant contributions to the economic development of the country and pledged to collaborate with the government and people of the state for the empowerment of Police Officer’s wives and their families.
