Adaugo can’t come to Lagos,I don’t want her here, she should stay with her parents over there…Mrs Nero fumed
Why? Why don’t you want her here? What has adaugo ever done to you Nero? Why are you so heartless? Asked her husband
I’m not heartless but Adaugo can’t come here that’s period!!! She said
I am the man of the house so she must stay here..he insisted
Man of which house? Nero asked laughing loudly
Man of this house of course…he responded
When last did you go to work? When last did you give me money to prepare a sumptuous meal for the family? Man of the house my foot.. she shouted
Even at that Nero, don’t be a nuisance…I paid your dowry don’t forget that…he said
With the help of your wretched parents then… she chipped
Mr Royale stared at her for a while and shook his head
Adaugo is staying with us! He said and left the parlour
Mrs Nero watched as her husband walked out on her, she sat on the stool in the parlour
She supported her chin with her palm and began to think
“Why does he want Adaugo here,why must she stay with a newly married couple eh?”
She picked up her basket which was lying carelessly on the floor and dashed off to market
She saw her friend Chizoba who was busy turning the palm fruits into a bag lying on the floor
Nero walked up to her
Hah! Your customers has been looking for you since… said Chizoba
My dear something came up that was why I wasted time and there’s no bike due to this fuel scarcity… She replied dumping her basket aside
I hope all is well? Chizoba asked
Zoba nsogbu dikwa (Zoba there’s problem).. she stated
What is the problem? Chizoba asked putting down her basket of palm fruits
It’s my husband oooo… she said
That good for nothing being? What has he done again? She asked
He wants his relative to come stay with us… she replied
His relative? Does he bring money for food? Does he pay rent? Bringing that girl here on whose head? Zoba ranted
I’m just tired Chizoba… She replied
Tired of what initially? Calm down besides you’re in control of everything under that roof… Chizoba said
My husband doesn’t even want to listen to me, he’s adamant.. she replied
I’ll even advise you to allow the girl come at least she will be helping you at home and here in the market… Chizoba advised
I don’t just like anything concerning Royale and his family… she said
Just see this as an opportunity to teach them a lesson,by the time she returns back to the village her parents won’t be able to recognize her…Stated zoba
I think you have a point… she said
Adaugo arrived Owerri the next day with her box, she stood by the road side waiting for Nero to come pick her
She dialed her number several times and it rang without nobody answering
When she couldn’t stand anymore she placed her box on the floor and sat on it
She waited patiently for her but she didn’t show up
Mr Royale showed up after two hours of Adaugo waiting
He apologized and took her home
Nero was in the parlour pressing her phone when her husband and Adaugo walked in
Adaugo greeted her but she didn’t respond, she kept on pressing her phone
Aunty didn’t you see my missed calls? Adaugo asked
Did you just talk to me? Nero asked
I only asked a question Aunty… she responded
You only did what? Don’t you ever dare talk to me anyhow again…Nero warned
Mr Royale dragged adaugo into the room and warned her never to talk to his wife again
