A yet-to-be-identified man has died after a cable drum being evacuated from a company’s container landed on him in the Ilemba Hausa area of Lagos state on March 14.
According to police sources, the manager of the electrical company reported to the police that on the said day at about 8.30a.m., a Hiab Forklifter was evacuating armoured cables from a container into its facility situated along Ojo Igbede road.
The manager told the police that during the evacuation, one of the cable drums disconnected and fell on the deceased who was pressing his phone while walking. The police said the manager mentioned that the deceased sadly died while being rushed to the hospital.
Police detectives immediately visited the scene of the incident and have been interrogating the owner of the company for ‘recklessness and negligent act.’’ According to the police, the owner of the company is supposed to have placed a sign signifying the inherent danger while the items were being evacuated and was supposed to have hired a guard to direct other road users while the evacuation of the dangerous item was being done.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the corpse of the deceased has since been deposited in the morgue while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
