Family and friends have celebrated the 62nd birthday of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who is serving a nine-year jail term in the UK for organ trafficking.
Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, shared photos with Ekeremadu’s daughters, including Sonia and other family members on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
“Today, I joined the Ekweremadu daughters and some family members to celebrate the 62nd birthday of my friend and brother for life. Indeed, I am so proud of the girls, especially Sonia, for the remarkable strength and resilience they have shown in these trying times,” he wrote.
“We cut a birthday cake in his honour and enjoyed a sumptuous lunch in celebration. May the Almighty God give him peace and good health as we pray for a grand re-union in Jesus name.”
Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice and a Nigerian doctor, Obinna Obetta, were found guilty of conspiracy for organ trafficking by the Westminster Magistrate Court.
The court sentenced Ekweremadu to nine years and 8 months in prison.
His wife was sentenced to four years and six months and Obetta to 10 years.
