The Director General, and Chief Executive Officer, of Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Olorogun Dr Isaac Akpoveta on Wednesday Enrolled 250 Persons With Disabilities ( PWD) to receive quality healthcare services and be protected from financial hazard of high cost of medical care across the 25 local government in Delta State.
The Director General disclosed this in Asaba, the state capital, when the state chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities led by comrade Ernest Igbuzor paid him a courtesy visit.
Dr. Akpoveta who was overwhelmed at the visit, said” the meeting marks a significant moment where he acknowledged the unique challenges faced by Persons With Disabilities and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring their inclusion support, and equal opportunities within the society”.
Dr. Akpoveta noted that ” the purpose of the meeting is not to convey empathy or sympathy but to listen, learn and take a decisive action to improve the quality of life for Persons With Disabilities in the state”.
The Director General noted that ” individual with disabilities are often subjected to social stigma, discrimination, and limited access to essential services, but that it is our collective responsibility to challenge such barriers and create an inclusive society that respects and values the contributions of every citizen”
He said, ” the Delta State Contributory Health Commission Law of December 2019 has taken significant steps to ensure that individuals with disabilities receive the quality healthcare they deserve”.
The Director General revealed that ” the Commission has implemented policies and programmes that aim to address the unique healthcare needs of the vulnerable, while ensuring that financial burden do not hinder their access to necessary treatments and therapies”.
Dr. Akpoveta also revealed that the Governor Oborevwori MORE Agenda through the Equity Health Plan of the Health Commission has enrolled, treated and paid for over 1.7 million pregnant women and children under five years of age.
He, called on all philanthropists, High Net-Worth individuals and organizations to come to the aid of people living with disabilities and adopt and purchase a health insurance card at 7000 Naira per person into the DSCHS.
The DG reaffirm commitment to advocating for the right and dignity of people living with disabilities, and calls for synergy to remove obstacles, promote accessibility, and empower individuals to live their lives to the fullest.
The DG, however, encourages PWD to engage in open and honest dialogue, share experiences and offer insights that will guide the Commission’s efforts to build a more inclusive society.
Earlier, while revealing the purpose of the visit, the state chairman of joint national association of Persons With Disabilities (PWD), and special assistant to the Governor on disabilities matters, comrade Ernest Igbuzor said the visit was to appeal to Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission Chairman to look into the health of Persons With Disabilities.
Comrade Igbuzor noted that the appeal was necessary to get attention from any of designated central hospitals across the state that when they are sick or down they can give authorization and be attended so that they can be healthy and be useful to themselves and Delta state at large, just as he commended the state governor and the chairman of the Commission for their humanitarian support.
