In pursuance of the Environmental Conservation Initiatives under the #DoMoreAgenda of the Ajede-led administration, and in an effort to keep Ukwuani Local Government clean and give it a befitting facelift, the Executive Chairman, Hon (Barr) C.S Possible Ajede today inaugurated an Environmental Taskforce with the mandate to keep the Council headquarters and Ukwuani communities clean.
The Committee members include: Hon. Abel Akporowowo (Chairman), Mrs. Rosemary Eyefia (HOD Envir/Sec), Mr. Influence Abido (D.o.P), Mr. Ikpo Blessing, Mr. Mopol Ologodo, Mr. Esiobi Lucky, and Mr. Diver Odigiri.
While addressing the taskforce members, Barr. Ajede charged them to carry out their duties of keeping the LGA clean, particularly Obiaruku with all seriousness and without favouritism, even as he assured them of the full support of the Council and security agents will be attached to the taskforce as well.
Speaking further, he said the team was constituted because Ukwuani people need a safe and healthy environment, which is also in line with the Delat State government’s policy. He outlined the terms of reference of the taskforce to include:
1) To keep the Local Government clean.
2) To take statutory measures to clear the roads, particularly the Old Sapele/Agbor Road in Obiaruku, Alumona Street, Amai Road, Amai junction and others.
3) To control Environmental Sanitation across the LGA on Environmental Sanitation day ensuring maximum compliance.
4) To ensure that all drainages/gutters are cleared particularly in Obiaruku.
5) And any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Chairman of the Council.
As part of measures to ensure the free flow of traffic and decongest the Old Sapele/Agbor Road and Amai Road in Obiaruku, vehicles are hereby prohibited from parking along the roads. All vehicles must now park at Evidence Motors along Amai road. Any vehicle parked along the road will henceforth be impounded by the taskforce.
Meanwhile, the Council Chairman has said a day will be set aside for traders to offload their goods, adding that, while keeping the LGA clean that economic activities must be allowed to thrive. “You must put on human face in the discharge of your duties, because Ukwuani people must be allowed to do their businesses while we are keeping the local government clean,” he said.
In his response, the chairman of the Environmental Taskforce Committee, Hon. Abeh Akporowowo, thanked the Executive Chairman for counting them worthy to serve and assured him that they will deliver on their mandate.
