Stop Channeling Kitchen Waste To Public Drains, Delta Warns Hoteliers, Eateries

Delta State Government has urged managements of hotels and eateries across the state to stop the act of channeling their kitchen waste to public drains, but look for a better resolve to dispose their waste water, adding that the state government will not show mercy to anyone caught in the act.

The Chairman, Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, stated this on Sunday at the NUJ Secretariat, Asaba during a party-parley media hangout.

Chief Asiuwhu noted that during work activities observed that hotels and eateries in Warri, Asaba and other part of the state channels their waste water into the public drains, polluting the environment with offensive odour.

Asiuwhu added that one of such hotel has been sealed up in Warri to serve as an example to other hotels and eateries who are involved in similar act.

Asiuwhu maintained that experts had been commissioned to carry out an investigation on hotels and eateries that are involved in that act, just as he warned those concerned to desist and find a better way of disposing of their kitchen waste before the law catch up with them

Also On the ban on scavenging, the Asiuwhu noted that some operators could still be found around with sacks picking up cans and disused cartons, saying that such persons did not constitute any serious security threat and were free to operate.

Earlier, the Chairman of Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Churchill Oyowe, revealed that the party-parley media hangout was designed to promote better understanding between those in authority and Journalists, and informing the public about their achievements and challenges.
