The Director General, Delta State Bureau of Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore on Sunday said the state government was pleased with the professional conduct of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta state council the way they handled information about the state.
Latimore disclosed this in Asaba at the 7th media party-parley hangout with Journalists at NUJ Secretariat.
Latimore revealed that the Delta Nigeria Union of Journalists,(NUJ) ranked among the best in the country in terms of unity, organization and moral conduct.
Dr. Fred added that members of the union had proven to be masters of their profession by disseminating credible information to the public and the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori was happy with the performance of Journalists in the state and the cordial relationship.
He maintained that the state government was not against criticisms, but he insisted that such criticisms must be constructive and based on verifiable facts, while condemning some online media platforms that undermine the ethics of the profession.
He, however, urged Journalists to seek clarifications on issues concerning the State Government primarily from the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary on areas where they are not clear, saying other Information Managers, including himself.
Earlier during his opening remark, Chairman, NUJ, Delta State Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, said Latimore is a good Information Manager, having served as Executive Assistance on Communications and Executive Assistant on Orientation to the Governor before his elevation to the DG, Bureau of Orientation and Communications.
Oyowe however vowed the readiness of Journalists in the state to partner with the Bureau in carrying out ts programmes and urged the DG to carry members of the union along in the scheme of things.
