Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) is proud to partner with News Central TV for the much-anticipated Diaspora Town Hall Meeting in New York, themed “Harnessing the Power of the Diaspora: The Right to Vote.” This pivotal event aims to spark essential discussions on the political engagement and voting rights of Nigerians living abroad, empowering the diaspora to influence national development.
This collaboration between NIDCOM and News Central highlights their shared commitment to strengthening the political voice of Nigerians worldwide, ensuring their active participation in shaping the country’s democratic future. Together, they aim to bridge the gap between the diaspora and national governance, advocating for meaningful contributions beyond remittances.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM and a leading voice in diaspora engagement, will deliver a keynote address emphasizing the critical role of the diaspora in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly around voting rights. Her participation reflects the Nigerian government’s commitment to recognizing the diaspora’s vital contributions and ensuring they are included in the democratic process.
Additionally, NIDCOM’s delegation will participate in panels and interactive sessions, engaging directly with the diaspora community on topics such as the status of diaspora voting legislation and ongoing efforts to make this a reality.
News Central Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Kayode Akintemi, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating:
“This collaboration with NIDCOM marks a significant step in amplifying the voices of Nigerians abroad. We believe in the immense potential of the diaspora’s political involvement, and this Town Hall is a platform for action, not just discussion. Nigerians abroad must have a say in the country’s future, and this is the time to make that happen.”
Following the success of News Central’s previous Town Halls in Nigerian cities like Lagos, Jos, and Abuja, this inaugural Diaspora Town Hall in New York will focus on electoral participation—a growing area of interest as Nigeria moves towards inclusive voting systems for its citizens overseas.
