Delta State Government, says the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration was responsive to citizens’ complaints in line with his zero tolerance for shoddy projects’ delivery.
The State Commissioner for Works ( Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze disclosed this on Sunday, during an unscheduled inspection of Beneku bridge and access road in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state.
Izeze who stated that he paid an unscheduled visit to the project site in reaction to a complain on Social Media, said the Oborevwori administration takes seriously genuine concerns raised by citizens in line with the Governor’s posture for quality projects delivery.
Accompanied by Functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Juliet Aboloje and top officials, Izeze said the contractor would be made to correct all abnormalities observed before any further certificates would be issued to the company.
“Let me first thank a very concerned citizen who performed his civic responsibility by using a veritable tool of the Social Media to draw the attention of government to the observations noticed in this project.
“Incidentally, it was brought to my attention last night by a colleague in government at about 3am this morning and I got in touch with my Functioning Permanent Secretary and Zonal Engineer to see for ourselves.
“Here we are now and having gone through the stretch of the bridge, we have noticed some anomalies on the expansion joints and the Zonal Engineer has confirmed that the contracting firm had been written before now to get back to site and fix those expansion joints across the length of the bridge.
“Furthermore more we have also discovered that most of the kerbs on the access road are falling off the embankment and this requires that the firm comes back to address those failures to reduce the threat it posses to the commuters on this road.
“We will write to the contractor to come back to site and address the anomalies that we have noticed on this important road so that the project can be done according to specification.
“This is to ensure we have value for every kobo spent so that residents of this area and visitors alike will use this road safely as is the intention of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.”
Youth President of Beneku Community Okechukwu Otuya and Secretary, Izu Louis, commended the Commissioner for his prompt response and called on the state government to prevail on the contractor to correct all the errors observed.
