Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has stirred up a conversation on social media after suggesting that the launch of phase 1B of the long-awaited Sokoto-Badagry expressway could hinge on political outcomes in the 2027 elections.
Addressing the people of Sokoto, Umahi hinted at their support being crucial for the continuation of the project, indirectly linking road construction progress to campaign promises.
During his address, Umahi acknowledged that while road construction projects have been delayed for decades, it was President Bola Tinubu who finally initiated action on the expressway, a project first proposed 48 years ago.
