The Delta state Government and the people of Olero creek communities of Udo, Ajemetan, Tebu Gbokoda, Jakpa, Ebrohimi and Obaghoro communities in Warri North local government area, have reached an agreement considering providing potable water in line with the governor’s MORE AGENDA.
Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Isaac Wilkie, who reached the agreement during a meeting held at his office with the community leaders and stakeholders of the Olero Creek Communities, noted that the area had already been considered and workers were been mobilized to get to site.
The meeting was necessitated as a response to a letter addressed to the state governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, and was signed by the stakeholders of these affirmationed communities calling for the intervention of the state governor to provide potable water and power as they threatened breakdown of Law and Order.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Aduge Okorodudu, explained that there was a time communities’ shutdown Chevron operations in the area before the intervention of the Immediate past Governor H.E. Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who in turn promised to provide potable water for the communities and was agreed at the time that the government do reticulation to Chevron Flow stations and hook-up to the facility.
According to Aduge, “the contract was awarded and pipelines were laid to the flow stations, but at the point of hook-up Chevron stopped the contractors and denied making such commitment.”
Responding to the communities plights, the commissioner, appealed to the communities to avoid any breakdown of law and order as he commended the Governor for approving the improvement of the water schemes on Olero Creeks.
Wilkie in his words said; “As one who grew up along these creeks, i understand what it means to be surrounded by so much water and still find potable water hard to get. There would be no need to protest or breakdown law and order. On the issue of water, we are already making necessary arrangements to solve this water challenges once and for all.”
” Along the Olero Creek, Improvement of Obaghoro, Ebrohimi, Tebu Gbokoda and Udo is already awarded and contractors would be in site soon and Dibi, Tisun and Kolokolo are also going to see improvement. I urge you to support, own and manage these facilities and other government facilities as though it were yours because in essence, it is yours.”
Speaking on the power supply, Wilkie promised to take their request to the honorable commissioner for Power and Energy just as he noted that he would try as much as possible to have the energy commissioner join them in the next meeting.
Hon. Rolland Ukuesan thanked the commissioner and His Excellency for having the Olero Creeks in mind for a final solution and suggested a town hall meeting with community members as the youth have lost faith in them thinking they only come to state capital to get fat envelopes and not really represent them.
