Delta state ministry of housing has unveiled plans to partner with developers to build affordable housing as part of the state Governor MORE AGENDA.
The commissioner for housing, Hon. Godkowns Angeles stated this recently at as Asaba while addressing journalists shortly after his ministry budget defence before the House Committee on Housing at the State House of Assembly.
Hon. Angeles noted that in driving the ministry’s housing goals for 2025, it is important to partner with developers through the public-private partnership (PPP).
The commissioner revealed that most of the developers for the affordable housing scheme are already in the state but, however, warned against land misuse by some developers.
In his words; “for the ministry to improve on the provision of housing, we need Public-Private Partnership, which is what we have agreed,”
“We have agreed to bring all the developers to Delta State, and achieve our goal. This is our focus for next year. Most of the developers are already in town, and that is our new blueprint for 2025.”
“Not all developers are developers; most of them are land grabbers, we are listing them carefully and checking their backgrounds because you don’t rush into PPP with someone who wants to grab land and leave. We are taking our time, and you will see a lot of action next year.”
The commissioner also disclosed further that the housing scheme will be extended to the 25 local government areas of the state by engaging all local government chairmen, meeting with community leaders to ensure that land allocation for these projects is free of disputes
Hon. Angeles maintained that “Sheriff Hostel” project, that is named after the Governor, aimed to provide affordable and accessible accommodation for students in higher institutions.
