Oborevwori Tasks Statistician To Create Data Ecosystem That Benefits Nigerians

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has tasked statisticians in the country to provide accurate data the will be of benefits to Nigerians.

Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, the governor made the call on Wednesday in Asaba while declaring open, the 2nd Bi-annual meeting of the National Consultative Committee on Statistics (NCCS).

According to him, statisticians in the country should to leverage technology in their bid to “enhance data integration, cohesion, accuracy, reliability and efficiency and to create a data ecosystem that benefits all Nigerians.”

He observed that accurate data is an indispensable resource in any decision-making process as it afford the people the opportunity to access, compare, interrogate and share data efficiently and in real-time.

“The theme of this biannual meeting: ‘Enhancing Data Integration and Interoperability in the Nigerian System’ couldn’t have been more apt than now.

“Accurate data is an indispensable resource in any decision making process; but equally as important is our ability to access, compare, interrogate and share data efficiently and in real-time, hence, the two operating words of “integration and Interoperability cannot be over-ernphasized.

“As an administration, we recognize the benefits of data integration and interoperability, it unlocks the full potential of data, driving innovation, efficiency and growth.

“To this end, we will continually strengthen our structures that are responsible for data collection and management with necessary tech tools and skills to foster a culture that values data-driven decision-making and encourage collaboration across departments,” the governor said.

The Statistician-General of Nigeria, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran had in an address, said that the National Consultative Committee on Statistics, NCCS, was a platform that brings together key actors across the statistical ecosystem.

He stated that the collaborative effort would address specific challenges and improve the overall quality and relevance of statistical data in Nigeria.

Adeniran urged government at all levels to optimize use of the data collected, managed and disseminated.

The ceremony was attended by statisticians from all parts of the country.
