Delta State Government on Tuesday disclosed that the state has made significant improvement in strengthening the maternal and child health indicators through the MORE AGENDA mantra.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme disclosed this in Asaba during the launch of the Maternal, Perinatal, and Child Death Surveillance and Response (MPCDSR) Report for the period 2012 to 2023.
Dr. Onojaeme noted that the State Government is committed to ensuring that no woman and child is recorded dead during child delivery, especially when that child Life has just begun.
The Commissioner, said, every maternal death is a tragedy, noting that with the help of the MPCDSR system, the pattern, causes, and the circumstances of maternal and perinatal deaths across the State will be understood and its recommendations to avert future deaths will be implemented fully.
The event themed “Improving Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes Through Accountability and Action” emphasized the need for the State to move beyond rhetoric to responsibility, beyond observation to implementation as it is the collective mirror that will move Delta State to act with greater urgency, greater compassion, and greater resolve.
“We will ensure that the findings from the MPCDSR review do not remain on paper, but we will track its recommendation and hold ourselves and facilities accountable for implementation, not as punishment but as a pathway to improvement,” Onojaeme added.
