Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Company, (NLNG), has donated state-of-the-art neonatal wards and intensive care unit to federal medical center, Asaba as part of her social responsibility
Speaking at the inauguration in Asaba, the Managing Director of Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, who was represented by the General Manager, External Relation and SD, Dr. Sophia Horfall said, “the newly renovated and equipped neonatal ward and intensive care unit will have save lives, especially the must vulnerable newborns and critically ill infants”
He added that the “upgraded facilities affirms the transformative impact of the NLNG-sponsored Hospital Support Programme (HSP), and It marks a decisive step forward in commitment towards fostering a healthcare system that works”.
He maintained that “with these enhancements, the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba is now better positioned to deliver care with improved tools, quicker response times, and better outcomes for youngest and most fragile patients”.
He explained that”the hospital support programme was NLNG’s strategic response to the urgent need for stronger upgrade of medical facilities for quality service delivery during the COVID-19 crisis.
“The hospital support programme is a part of our broader vision to improve lives sustainably. Beyond our investment in healthcare, NLNG remains deeply committed to investing in people through scholarship programmes that advance education and empower the next generation. We also prioritise infrastructure development because we believe progress is best achieved when opportunity is multifaceted”.
Performing the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare , Dr. Iziag Salako described the facility as another milestone in the quest to provide quality healthcare services in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The Minister who was ably represented by the Director, Hospital Services, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare , Doctor Jimoh Salaudeen, said the support of the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas to donate the magnificent neonatal wards and intensive care unit was key to achieving reduction in infant mortality.
During his overview, Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Dr. Victor Osiatuma said the neonatal wards and intensive care unit were rebuilt, and piped with oxygen, and ensures oxygen is delivered to every baby whether in a cot or in an incubator.
Osiatuma added that the facility is designed with a 60 KVA inverter system to ensure sustainability, was equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including mechanical ventilating equipment, X-ray machines
In his goodwill message, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Epiphany Azinge, represented by Chief Patrick Ndili commended the Sponsor of the Neonatal Wards and Intensive Care Unit, that it would benefit to all Nigerians
Others who spoke at the event, including the Chairman, Federal Medical Centre Board, Dr. Mary Idele-Alile, the director of NLNG Board, Obi lauded the initiative of the hospital support programme which, according to them, had continued to improve health infrastructure across the country.
