The Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus, (D-CARES) on Monday, 21 of July 2025, has trained key staff of the D-CARES on management and sustainable development programme on resilience.
The two-day training programme themed; “Management of Sustainable Development Programme for Resilience took place in Asaba, Delta State capital, in collaboration with Briki training and consultancy services.
Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning, who also doubles as the chairman of the state CARES steering committee, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, reemphasized the need for training and capacity building, especially when migrating into the NG-CARES 2.0
Mr. Ekedayen noted that D-CARES major work is people-centric while stressing the need to deal with people equally.
He said, ” we can now re-emphasize the need for capacity building, especially as we are now migrating into NG-CARES 2.0.”
“ I am happy that we have a new name for our target audience, but they will no longer be beneficiaries but customers, and that is very instructive because you treat your customers differently.”
“ Our work is people-centric, and if we are dealing with human beings, it behoves us to come to the table with everything we got because dealing with human beings is a different ball game entirely.”
“ At the end of the day, the goal is to deliver services to the people, and we can only say we have done well if the people (customers) are happy with us by way of feedback.”
“ So this topic is deliberately grafted to help us understand how to manage people at different levels. We are the representation of this administration, and the way we relate and interact with people speaks volume.””
You are our first line of foot soldiers; we will deploy you to the field to interact and help us manage and solve problems.”
Earlier, in her welcome address, the state coordinator of the Delta CARES programme, Dr. Patience Ogbewe said the two-day training workshop is a strategic investment in the capacity of personnel who are at the frontlines of delivering impactful services to the poor and vulnerable across the state.
She maintained that by transmitting into the NG- CARES 2.0 , the major prerequisite for eligibility and continued participation in the programme is the demonstrated capacity of staff to manage, deliver, and sustain results.
She, however, urged participants to fully engage themselves with the training session, share experiences, and apply the knowledge gained to improve their service delivery.
While commending the state government and the honorable commissioner for their unwavering support and leadership for the success of the programme.
