The Delta State House of Assembly has passed the Community Security Corps Bill, 2025, which aimed at boasting and tackling security across the state.
The bill, which had earlier scaled legislative processes, was read the third time and passed in a unanimous voice vote by the lawmakers during plenary presided over by the Speaker.
At plenary, the house suspended the relevant rules of the house to enable it to take the third reading of the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Bill, 2025.
In a motion by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and supported by the member representing Ndokwa West, Hon. Charles Emetulu, the bill was read the third time and passed by the house.
Thanking lawmakers for the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, stressed that Section 14 subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
Rt. Hon. Guwor maintained that the successful passage of the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Bill 2025 clearly demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the State Assembly to the safety and welfare of Deltans stating that the bill is a critical step towards strengthening the State Community Security architecture.
Reacting to the passage of the bill, the lead sponsor of the bill and member representing Aniocha South constituency, Hon Isaac Anwuzia, expressed joy, saying the bill, when assented to by the governor, will finally lay to rest the issues of insecurity bedevilling the state and other parts of the country He noted that the Community.
The security corps Agency bill otherwise known as community policing having passed through rigorous legislative processes provides a comprehensive framework strengthen the localized security architecture, addressing critical concerns such as funding, recruitment, as well as the role of critical stakeholders.
The passage of the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency bill is yet another milestone achievement by the 8th Assembly of the State Legislature.
