The Commissioner of Delta State Police Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Tuesday, August 12 , 2025, presented a whopping of N37.6 million to the families of deceased officers who died while in active service on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
This was disclosed in a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in Asaba, Delta State capital
The press statement added that “the cheques issued on behalf of the IGP were part of the IGP Family’s Welfare Scheme and Group Life Assurance.”.
Speaking at the presentation, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, Abaniwonda, noted that “the nation and the Nigeria Police Force appreciate the sacrifices made by their loved ones who served in the Nigeria Police Force before their deaths.”
He maintained that the welfare of families of both serving and late officers is part of the interest of the Inspector General of Police, and it’s on his behalf that these cheques were presented to them.
While he appreciated the gesture of the IGP, as the cheques will in no small way act as a boost to the families and also a way of letting them know that, though their loved ones are no more, and Force did not forget their sacrifices.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Chidinma Paul, thanked the IGP for his magnanimity, noting that the money given to them will be used judiciously.
