The Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge, has clarified that there was never a time a dispute ensued between the Asagba and the Oko Kingdom, but a mere misunderstanding that arose from differences in interpretation.
The Asagba of Asaba stated this during a reconciliation meeting held at the office of local government council chairman, Chief Hon. Ezeyinli Kelvin, Oshimili South local government area of Delta State.
Asagba of Asaba noted that the two kingdoms have been living together as brothers and sisters united by shared heritage and mutual respect.
He maintained that both kingdoms remain one, intertwined in history and bound by destiny, stressing that both kingdoms will continue to live together in peace and harmony in ensuring that both environments thrive for the progress and development of the people.
He said, “Our collective responsibility is to work hand in hand to reposition and rebrand our communities, to improve the welfare of our people, and to promote unity at all times.”
“Let there be no doubt: we are together. Whenever any issue arises, our two kings can always come together as brothers to resolve it peacefully.”
He, however, commended the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the local government council chairman and all those who have played roles in bringing this matter to a successful conclusion, saying history will remember them kindly for their patience, wisdom, and commitment to peace.
He also expresses gratitude to the Obi of Oko for his friendship and goodwill, that he demonstrated true brotherhood by attending his first coronation, that such gesture speaks volumes, and assured everyone that there is no animosity between Asaba and Oko and both kingdoms are united and will continue to support one another.
Also speaking at the reconciliation meeting, the Obi of Oko Kingdom, however endorsed the speech of Asagba of Asagba for peace, progress, and development of both kingdoms.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman, Oshimili South local government council, Chief Hon. Ezeyinli Kelvin, said he decided to implore the civic community to embrace the approach of conflict mediation and resolution to promote economic development, increase interpersonal relationships, and exchange ideas.
Hon. Ezeyinli, also appreciate His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, who granted him the permission to embark on the voyage of reconciliation, which has resulted in a significant milestone in the history of Oshimili South.
He equally applauded both Royal Majesties for the spirit of reciprocity displayed during the period of mediation and reconciliation and all Palace Chiefs and individuals involved in the process for sheathing their swords.
