As part of spreading joy and putting smiles on the faces of families, children and supporting the less privileged persons, the Diocese of Asaba Agape Foundation (DAAF) on Saturday, hosted its maiden Christmas charity event for children and less privileged persons in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The Christmas charity celebration, whose aim was to spread happiness and to mark the birth of Jesus Christ and also to extend care and support to the vulnerable in the society.
Speaking at the event, the representative of the Bishop, Venerable Herbert Umesh, hinted that the Diocese of Asaba Agape Foundation was established by Rt. Rev. Kingsley C. Obuh as a platform to coordinate the church’s outreach to the less privileged.
He said the aim of the foundation was to bring together the prison ministry, the elderly, and other outreach groups in the church to assist them within the diocese.
He said, “The Christmas charity was designed to reach out to children and vulnerable persons as part of activities marking the Birth of Christ.”
“Today, DAAF organized this party for children to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ our Saviour. That is the essence of this gathering.”
While describing the success of the programme that was well attended as impactful. “You can agree with me that the celebration is going on very well; this is the first edition of this programme in the diocese.”
“As you can see around, food materials and other items are being distributed to beneficiaries to make them happy during the Christmas celebration.
Earlier, in his message, venerable Umeh said Christmas is a season that symbolizes peace, love, joy, and happiness.
He explained that Christ came to bring peace, love, joy, and happiness to everyone and period when the less privileged are identified and cared for.
The event featured a display and auction of items, as well as a funfair that included Santa Claus (Father Christmas), a bouncing castle, Mickey Mouse mascots, Christmas carols, praises, and other exciting activities that created a joyful atmosphere for the children.
