The Delta State government has said adequate measures have already been put in place to respond to any emergencies across all parts of the state
The Honourable Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Ejiro Etacherure disclosed this in Asaba while giving the ministry’s readiness to quickly respond to any form of fire incident or emergencies.
The Commissioner also noted that the ministry is not saddled with the responsibility of responding to fire outbreaks but also to other natural disasters.
He hinted that the professional committee that was set up by the state government was to strengthen planning, coordination, and emergency preparedness.
He said, “Recently we recorded a successful intervention at a fire incident in Apollo, where emergency personnel responded promptly and prevented further damage. That response demonstrated the state government’s commitment and capacity to effectively respond, regardless of its distance.”
Though, at times, we may not be physically present in all locations, timely reporting by the public enables us to act. “Once we are informed, our men move into action immediately and are available 24/7.”
On the establishment of fire stations, the Commissioner said the state government is working toward ensuring that every local government area has at least one functional fire station, while plans ongoing to procure new ones to add to the existing ones for a more effective response
He urged residents to remain vigilant during the dry season, especially those using cooking gas and other flammable materials.
