The President-General of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Comrade Amechi Asugwuni, has showered encomium on the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences, Kwale, Prof Abel Onunu for his commitment towards the development and growth of the school.
He made this disclosure yesterday while hosting members of the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum, Asugwuni enjoins all Ndokwa sons and daughters to work towards the progress of the university.
The PG hinted that the recent visit to the Vice Chancellor was quite expository as he was conducted round both the temporary and the permanent sites, where construction work has reached an advanced stage.
He also praised the efforts being made to ensure a conducive learning and working environment for staff and students.
Speaking further, Chief Asugwuni expressed concern over criticisms directed at the Vice Chancellor in relation to the employment of Ndokwa indigenes, stressing why such actions should attract attacks.
He noted that the VC’s wife, a director at the University of Benin, relocated to Kwale to support the institution’s development despite working under modest conditions.
The NNU leader urges Ndokwa people to embrace unity with a view to building bridges across political and social divides.
He went further to say that unity would strengthen the peace and development of the region.
Comrade Asugwuni emphasized the fact that NNU remains non-partisan and would engage political office holders and stakeholders at all levels.
He further highlighted concerns over oil production benefits, noting that the existing nine percent oil quantum arrangement is outdated, especially given the significant number of oil wells operating in the area.
He added that the Union would make an incursion to the NDDC on matters affecting Ndokwa as a key stakeholder in oil and gas production.
The President-General expressed joy on Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum for the visit and confirm the readiness of his government to collaborate with Ndokwa media men for positive image of the Ndokwa nation.
Speaking earlier, the Forum’s Chairman, Comrade Barth Inneh-Ozah, hinted that the visit was aimed at strengthening communication, fostering collaboration, and exploring ways to advance the collective aspirations of Ndokwa people.
The high point of the press briefing was cutting of cake to mark the first anniversary of the Amechi Asugwuni-led NNU executive.
