The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Delta State Command, celebrated the 2026 International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) Day with a series of activities culminating in an anniversary lecture at the State Command Headquarters.
The event, organized by the State Commandant, Chinedu F. Igbo, featured two lecture sessions aimed at deepening awareness of civil defence operations and promoting environmental responsibility.
The first lecture was delivered by DCC Dr. Osemekeh Ebi Paul and focused on the “Overview of ICDO/NSCDC,” highlighting the establishment, membership, structure, and coordination of both organizations.
The second lecture was presented by the Guest Speaker, Mr. Enoch Anyakpele, State Coordinator of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).
He spoke on the 2026 ICDO Day theme, “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future,” emphasizing the need for proactive environmental management to ensure sustainability.
An interactive session followed the lectures, providing participants with an opportunity for engagement and discussion.
Key issues raised included the urgent need for decisive action by government and regulatory agencies to monitor and regulate the activities of companies, groups, and individuals whose operations pose environmental risks.
Mr. Anyakpele assured the NSCDC Delta Command of strengthened collaboration between NESREA and the Corps, noting that both agencies share complementary mandates that can enhance overall service delivery.
The celebration was concluded at about 1325 hours with group photographs and renewed commitments toward environmental protection and civil defence responsibilities.
The statement was signed by DSC Anthony Uchenna, Command’s Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command.
