There are moments in the life of a community when it must pause, look inward, and deliberate on the future it wishes to build. For Umuseti, that moment is now.
In response to growing concerns about youth unemployment, the erosion of community values, and the urgent need for structured mentorship and skills development, the inaugural Umuseti National Youth Conference is set to be held on Easter Monday, 6th April 2026, at the Olieogo Umuseti Town Hall. The conference, themed “From Hustle to Legacy: Empowering Umuseti Youths with Hands-On Skills, Legitimate Earnings, Strong Character & Community Values,” is a bold, strategic, and timely response to the challenges confronting the young men and women of Umuseti and indeed, the youth of our generation at large.
This is not merely a gathering. It is a defining intervention, a community investment in its most valuable asset: its youth.
BACKGROUND: THE CHALLENGE WE MUST CONFRONT
Across Nigeria today, the story of youth is one of enormous potential shadowed by immense challenges. Umuseti is not immune. Many of our young people brilliant, ambitious, and hardworking, find themselves navigating a world that offers few structured opportunities. The skills gap is widening. Unemployment and underemployment are endemic. The moral and cultural values that once anchored our communities are steadily eroding. Mentorship is scarce. And without a compelling reason to stay engaged, many of our most talented youth are drifting away physically and emotionally from the community that produced them.
The Umuseti National Youth Council, the organiser, has identified these realities and has resolved that silence is no longer an option. The Umuseti National Youth Conference is the community’s answer, practical, purposeful, and people-centred.
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
The conference is designed to deliver measurable, lasting impact through the following strategic objectives:
• Youth Unity and Cohesion — To create a unified platform that bridges Umuseti youth across divides of geography, generation, and background, fostering a renewed sense of collective identity and solidarity.
• Skills Development and Economic Empowerment — To equip participants with practical, hands-on skills, entrepreneurial insights, and knowledge frameworks for legitimate wealth creation and innovation.
• Leadership Development — To identify and nurture emerging leaders through mentorship, structured training, and exposure to distinguished role models.
• Values Reorientation — To reinforce strong moral character, civic responsibility, and cultural pride among young people, bridging the gap between traditional community values and modern aspirations.
• Youth Database Creation — To establish a comprehensive, living database of Umuseti youth both resident and diaspora, to facilitate targeted empowerment programmes and community planning.
• Sustainable Engagement Framework — To lay the institutional foundation for a recurring, long-term youth development structure that outlasts any single event.
