


The President-General of the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Comrade Amechi Asugwuni, has urged female students of Ndokwa nation to imbibe good character and pursue quality education as future mothers and responsible citizens of the country.
Asugwuni made the call in Kwale at the weekend during the Ndokwa Girls Quiz Competition and Reading Culture Revival organised by the Ndokwa Neku Union Women Wing in collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation.
He encouraged the students to uphold good character, describing it as a key attribute that brings honour and dignity to womanhood. According to him, education remains a powerful tool that builds value, strength and confidence in young girls.
While commending the participants, Asugwuni stressed that women should look beyond traditional roles, noting that parents must ensure that girls are properly educated to stand as equal partners with men in building a better society.
He also called on women to actively participate in governance and promote mutual respect within the society, adding that a good name remains a priceless asset for every woman.
Comrade Asugwuni, who served as the Father of the Day, commended the Ndokwa Neku Union Women Wing for organising the maiden edition of the Ndokwa Girls Quiz Competition and Reading Culture Revival.
He urged them to continue investing in the education of young girls, whom he described as future mothers, wives and nation builders.
In her keynote address, the Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, congratulated the Ndokwa Neku Union Women Wing for promoting girl-child education.
She commended the organisers for initiating the quiz competition and encouraged the participants to think critically and compete intellectually.
She noted that reading broadens the mind and emphasized that empowering girls through education ultimately empowers families and communities.
She also called on stakeholders in the education sector to support initiatives that promote reading culture and youth development.
The governor’s wife further highlighted her pet project, the You Matter Charity Foundation, which focuses on building confident and educated young people across Delta State.
She encouraged the girls to believe in their dreams and remain confident in their abilities.
The event featured quiz competitions among girls from 15 secondary schools drawn from Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East and Ukwuani Local Government Areas.
At the end of the competition, Umutu Mixed Secondary School, Umutu emerged winner, followed by Ezionum Secondary School, while Emu-Uno Mixed Secondary School and Abbi Girls Secondary School came third.
In the reading culture category, Ashaka Mixed Secondary School, Ashaka came first, followed by Utagba-Ogbe Technical College, while Novena University Staff School finished third.
The event was attended by the Wife of the Governor, represented by the Wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs. Guwor.
Other dignitaries present included the Wife of the Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Akpowowon; the Director-General of You Matter Charity Foundation, Barrister Mrs. Loretta Ogbedo; and Chief Johnson Opone, represented by his wife, Mrs. Opone.
Also in attendance were, Mrs. Obi Nzete, Mrs. Possible Ajede, Chief Mrs. Chinonye Dafe, Hon. Fidelis Tilije represented by Mr. Andy Atuma, Mrs. Mary Chidi, Hon. Mrs. Bridget Anyafulu, Prof. Mrs. Joyce Ogwezi, as well as several royal mothers from Utagba-Ogbe and Umuebu communities.
