The Delta State Government has unveiled the “Light Up To Industrialize Delta Initiative” aimed at addressing the state’s unreliable electricity supply.
The initiative seeks to position Delta as a hub for industrial growth powered by stable electricity in the state.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, Hon. Commissioner for Economic Planning Mr. Sunny Ekedayen said there is a strategic roadmap being championed by the Oborevwori administration to reposition the state as a hub of industrial growth powered by stable electricity between the Delta State Governor and officials of Power Acumen Consulting Ltd. (PACL), Detail Solicitors, and Nigeria Infrastructure Bank (NIB).
Hon. Ekedayen disclosed that the state Governor has approved the engagement of Power Acumen Consulting Limited to undertake a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of Delta’s electricity ecosystem.
He said the consultants have, since late last year, conducted extensive fieldwork by interfacing with stakeholders and analyzing infrastructure and institutional gaps across the power value chain.
He revealed that an interim report submitted by the firm recommended a sweeping overhaul of the state’s electricity laws and policy framework, an indication of deep-rooted structural deficiencies that the Government was now poised to address.
The Commissioner, however, acknowledged the high cost of electricity provision and assured that the government was committed to maintaining competitive tariffs by leveraging existing energy assets within the state.
According to him, “In the not-too-distant future, Deltans will begin to experience measurable improvements in electricity supply,” stressing the Governor’s unwavering commitment to delivering sustainable solutions.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Fidelis Tilije, said the state government is ready to support every phase of the initiative, stressing that funding would not be a problem.
