The Delta State Government on Wednesday said they are open to private sector investors who want to establish their CNG stations and are ready to concession more
The State Governor stated this during the commissioning of the first Auto-CNG filling station in Asaba, Delta state capital.
The State Governor, who was ably represented by the Secretary to State Government, Mr. Kingsley Emu, said the CNG buses and tricycles were conceived by the state government, but putting the right infrastructure in place was imperative before implementation.
The Governor while describing the project as “important,” said the state is open to concessioning more stations and also available to any private investors who want to establish them.
The Governor noted that a lot has been done in creating physical infrastructure in terms of roads to enable the vehicles to ply, adding that the next step is to push down the cost of transportation and the CNG filling was critical.
He said, “If you have gas in a day that can really fuel two thousand vehicles, you will agree with me that it is a great journey”.
“ The state government is open to concessioning more daughter stations in the state, and we are also available and open to private investors who want to establish their own CNG buses”.
“ We have done a lot in creating physical infrastructures in terms of roads to enable these vehicles to ply, so the next step is to push down the cost of transportation”.
“ They are not only going to sell CNG products, but they will also do a lot of conversions”
Also speaking at the occasion, the Hon. Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, said the commissioning of the CNG station marks a journey to a more sustainable, affordable, and eco-friendly future.
He said, “The CNG conversion station represents a game-changing solution, especially after recent petrol subsidy removal, adding that it provides a more cost-effective alternative to traditional premium motor spirit (petrol), making it a choice for consumers and businesses.
He maintained that “the Renewed Hope and More Agenda of Oborewvori’s administration is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation and environmental responsibility.”
“This station has a workshop designed to convert conventional petrol vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This transformation not only significantly reduces operating costs for vehicle owners but also contributes to a substantial decrease in carbon emissions, he said.
He commended the state Governor in collaboration with NIPCO Gas Ltd. for achieving this project in the heart of Asaba within the specified period and with quality materials.
Earlier, during his welcome address, the project manager of NIPCO Gas Limited, Mr. Achibe Victor Attah, said the company was proud to pioneer CNG technology in Nigeria.
He said the Asaba and Warri stations have a combined capacity to serve over 2,000 vehicles, including tricycles, per day.
He commended the Delta State Government for its proactive approach, noting that the state is among the first in Nigeria to embrace such a partnership.
