The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara, a 7-day ultimatum to re-present the 2024 budget.
This directive came during the first sitting of the pro-Wike assembly following a favorable ruling by the Appeal Court.
Simultaneously, a parallel session led by Victor Oko-Jumbo is taking place, where a commissioner-designate is being screened.
Governor Fubara had initially presented the budget to an assembly loyal to him, with his current Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, presiding as Speaker. The pro-Fubara lawmakers passed the budget estimates, and the governor subsequently signed the bill into law, emphasizing its focus on promoting economic development, inclusive growth, and addressing socio-economic inequality in the state.
This marks the second time the Amaewhule-led Assembly has directed Governor Fubara to re-present the budget.
