The Director General, for Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria, (SMEDAN), Mr. Charles Odii has disclosed that the Federal Government, President Bola Tinubu has earmarked the sum of N50 Billion Naira to support one million Nano businesses with the sum of 50 thousand Naira grant.
The Director General stated this on Thursday 5th of September 2024 at Asaba during an interview with Journalists immediately after addressing the beneficiary of the small business owners from the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District in the State.
He said the grant was to support small business owners and also to train them to enable them to start and grow their respective businesses.
According to him, “we are here to support small business owners, and we are training them and giving them a lot of grant for them to start and grow their businesses”.
He alleged that in Delta state, most of the benefits that are meet for small businesses are only going to one political party.
In his words: I have been told that in Delta state, the benefits that are supposed to go to small businesses are only going to one political party and that is very wrong”
He added that poverty does not know political party, sex, and age, while maintaining that the agency through the federal government support is providing a long-term solution that will help to improve the capacity of the young people and also giving them grant.
According to him, “one of the things we are doing, is a long-term solution that will help to improve the capacity of our young people, and also giving them grant for short-term solutions ”.
He, however, called on the state government to reach out to the young people and also support small businesses to enable them develop, saying that SMEDAN cannot do it alone.
