Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District in the senate, has said that he is honoured to present a bill for the creation of Anioma State, saying this addresses a long-standing historical oversight.
This is according to a statement by one of his media support groups, Senator Ned Nwoko Feedback Lead Admins.
He noted that Anioma, comprising nine local government areas, boasts an impressive profile, citing the rich natural resources with six local government areas endowed with oil and gas reserves which he said provides a solid economic foundation and also the significant human capital with Anioma being home to a vibrant, skilled, and educated population.
According to him, these facts make the area attractive for statehood.
Meanwhile, this initiative has garnered widespread support from key stakeholders.
Groups such as Anioma Socio-Cultural Group and Izu Anioma have been vocal in their advocacy, while others such as Pan Igbo Cultural Organization and Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo have also lent their supports.
Traditional Rulers led by the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozie have consistently backed the creation of Anioma State.
This reporter also recalls that numerous meetings have been held, including discussions with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to solidify consensus, stating that the creation of Anioma State is crucial for achieving justice and equity in the South East.
Stakeholders have repeatedly said that creating Anioma State will amplify representation by strengthening Anioma’s presence in the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly.
It will also foster economic growth by unlocking Anioma’s potential through targeted development initiatives, they believe.
