The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Bldr. Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, has revealed that the polytechnic aim is how to improve technology in Nigeria.
The Rector who was a guest at the 17th party to parley media friendly hangout organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta statet Council, Asaba.
Speaking at the friendly media hangout, professor Achuenu explained that the state polytechnic is responsible for training and development of students in theory, research and practice.
Achuenu noted that the polytechnic is a technological institution, and the focus is how to improve technology in Nigeria.
According to him; “we are responsible for training and development of students, both in theory, research and practice”.
” The polytechnic is a technological institution, our concerns is how to improve technology in Nigeria”.
The Rector also noted that the institution is shifting its focus from knowledge base economy to skill base economy for more productivity.
He said: “we are also shifting our base from knowledge base economy to skill base economy for more productivity”
Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu explained further that the skill base economy is to transform the knowledge that have been acquired into visible, adding that his goal is to add value to create better polytechnic.
While he expressed worry at the underreports from media on the progresses and achievements of the polytechnic, saying it is easier to report negative than positive.
The reactor noted that strengthening the academic programmes and having all the programmes accredited is a major achievement.
Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, however, commended his predecessor and others for their contributions and achievements.
