It was a moment of joy at Igbe-Ogume Community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta as the Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. (Chief) Obi Nzete, took over the health center building with a promise of fully equipping the healthcare center for the community to access medical treatment within the community.
The chairman was ably represented by Chief Sunday Enu said the local government council chairman is deeply concerned about the healthcare of every individual in the community, saying that health is wealth.
He also commended the Niger Delta Support Programme 4 (NDSP4) for ensuring that a building of this edifice is built in the community.
He said, “We feel pleased and grateful for giving them (referring to the community) the enabling environment to build this structure, and, as you know, health is wealth.
” If you are not healthy, you cannot face any aspirations. Today we are happy, and the people are happy too for having a place they can rush to when there is a need.
” We will do everything possible to equip the healthcare centre, the council will do all they can to ensure that the health centre is equipped for the proper usage.
” We will also ensure the NDSP4 that equipping the health center will not be a problem, and I will advise that the community should keep maintaining the place and also ensure adequate security is put in place.
Earlier, during his welcome address, the chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Chief Alaska Ekele, commended the local government council chairman for coming to their aid at a time when the community required healthcare services.
Alaska noted that the community had never experienced any government presence, noting that with the effort of the local government chairman, the community is having a healthcare center for the first time.
He said, “Today is an important milestone in the history of Igbe-Ogume; it is important because we are witnessing what has never been done in the history of this community.
” We have never experienced or seen anything that looks like government presence in this community, but for the effort of our amiable chairman, Hon. Chief Obi Nzete, he has written his name in gold today, and courtesy of this takeover of our health center.
Alaska also noted that the structure for the healthcare center was facilitated by a support group under the European Union, Niger Delta Support Programme, NDSP4.
The CDC chairman, however, expressed belief that the healthcare center would serve as a turnaround for the betterment of the community.
Meanwhile, an illustrious son Chief Godwin Ndenwa has donated an apartment for the Resident Doctor that would be posted to the health centre.
The high point was cutting of tape declaring that the building has been taken over by the council.
