The Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with the Oshimili North and Oshimili South Local Government Councils, has launched a major enforcement operation against unauthorized motor parks and garages operating within the Asaba metropolis.
The exercise, which commenced on Monday, July 20, targeted illegal transport parks identified as major contributors to traffic congestion, public disorder and security concerns in the state capital.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer,SP Bright Edafe said the operation also seeks to curb criminal activities allegedly facilitated through unregulated transport hubs, including the movement of unchecked parcels disguised as waybills.
During the enforcement exercise, authorities dismantled nine illegal parks at strategic locations across Asaba. These include one at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road, two in the Summit area, three around the Koka axis, and three at the Head Bridge corridor bordering Delta and Anambra states.
A total of 45 vehicles were impounded during the operation. The vehicles have been handed over to the relevant local government authorities for possible prosecution in line with existing laws and regulations.
The Delta State Police Command said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to restore order in the transport sector and ensure that only duly registered and approved parks and garages operate across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the exercise, noting that similar enforcement operations would be extended to other parts of Delta State.
The Command appealed to residents to support the initiative by cooperating with security agencies, while urging transport operators and motorists to comply with established regulations and patronise only government-approved parks and garages.
