The Delta State Police Command has urged youths in the state to shun political and digital thuggery, cultism, cybercrime, hate speech and other activities capable of jeopardising their future.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, made the call as the command joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day, with the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
This was disclosed in a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and was made available to newsmen in Asaba.
The command said the celebration, being held in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is aimed at strengthening police-youth engagement and encouraging young people to contribute positively to peace, security and community development.
According to the command, a three-day programme of activities will take place in Asaba from August 20 to 22, beginning with the official launch of the National Campaign Against Political and Digital Thuggery at Coka Park on Thursday.
The launch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The programme will continue on Friday with a youth sensitisation walkathon, which will take off from the Police Headquarters, Okpanam Road, Asaba, at 7 a.m.
The final day on Saturday will feature a police-youth dialogue, panel discussion and special lecture at the Officers’ Mess, Police Headquarters, Okpanam Road, Asaba, beginning at 10 a.m.
The command said the programme would provide an opportunity for meaningful interaction with youths on responsible citizenship, peaceful participation, digital responsibility and crime prevention.
It added that lectures would address issues including political and digital thuggery, drug abuse and cultism, under the campaign message, “My Future Is Greater Than Political & Digital Thuggery.”
Oyeniyi urged young people to channel their energy and talents towards education, entrepreneurship, innovation, sports and other productive pursuits.
The command called on youths and members of the public to participate actively in the activities and support efforts aimed at promoting peaceful and responsible youth engagement.
The programme is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the police and youths in addressing security challenges and promoting safer communities in Delta State.
