Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, have charged youths in the state, particularly Anioma youths, to harness the power of information, knowledge and communication to drive development and promote unity across the region.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, who also served as Chairman of the occasion, gave the charge at the 2nd Youth Summit of the Progressive Anioma Youth Association (PAYA) in Asaba.
He commended the association for bringing young people together to deliberate on issues affecting their future and communities.
The noted that information had become one of the most powerful tools in the modern world and urged youths to use it responsibly by avoiding misinformation, rumours and divisive narratives.
He stressed the need for young people to acquire relevant skills, engage constructively with government and other stakeholders, and contribute meaningfully to the development of Anioma, Delta State and Nigeria at large.
He congratulated the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on his investiture as Grand Patron of PAYA, describing the honour as well deserved in recognition of his service, experience and contributions to the development of the state and Nigeria.
He further charged the youths to build bridges across communities, noting that their voices were important in shaping the future of Anioma and Delta State.
Also speaking at the event, the National Coordinator and Convener of PAYA, Chief Mayor Enujeko, reaffirmed his commitment to building a stronger, united and purposeful Anioma youth movement capable of contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the region.
Enujeko said information was a powerful tool for empowering the youth, stressing that Anioma youths must not only have access to information but also learn how to transform knowledge into opportunities, innovation and sustainable development.
He added that the PAYA initiative seeks to create a united and informed generation of Anioma youths capable of becoming responsible leaders and valuable contributors to the future of Anioma.
In his acceptance speech, former Delta State Governor and Grand Patron of PAYA, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, charged Anioma youths to be valuable contributors to society and deploy their talents, knowledge and skills towards building a stronger and better Anioma, Delta State and Nigeria at large.
Okowa stressed that the future of Anioma depended largely on the ability of its younger generation to remain purposeful, responsible and committed to positive change.
He therefore called on Anioma youths to work together, support one another and use their collective strength to promote peace, progress and sustainable development across the region.
Okowa commended PAYA for providing a platform to unite Anioma youths and encourage their active participation in the development of the region.
Highlights of the event included the investiture of the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as Grand Patron of the association, as well as the presentation of awards to outstanding and high-performing Executive Chairmen across Anioma.
