President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the attack on the residence of the President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, George Obiozor, by gunmen.
Gunmen on Saturday razed the country home of Mr Obiozor in Awo- Omamma, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.
Two police officers on duty were shot dead, also on Saturday, when gunmen attacked their police facility at Umuguma police station, Owerri West council area in Imo.
President Buhari, in a statement from his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Sunday, described the attack on the Igbo leader’s residence as “deeply distressing”.
Mr Buhari sympathised with the Ohanaeze president and urged him to maintain his commitment to the peace and oneness of Nigeria, despite the rising insecurity in the country.
He said Mr Obiozor is a leading voice of moderation in the affairs of the country.
President Buhari, according to the statement, also extended sympathies to the police authorities over the loss of their men and materials in the attack on their facility.
The president condemned the violence in the region and urged everyone to maintain peace, adding that the security situation in the South-east was being reviewed.
There has been growing insecurity in the South-east in recent years.
IPOB, an outlawed group agitating for the creation of an independent state of Biafra from the South-east and some parts of the South-south, is accused of being responsible for the attacks in the regions.
Buhari Orders APC To Refund Monies To Candidates Who Step Down
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has asked the All Progressives Congress to refund the monies used in purchasing forms to aspirants who step down and embrace consensus ahead of the Saturday convention.
Buhari said this during a meeting with APC governors in Abuja on Wednesday, adding that the governors should ensure that all persons seeking office into the National Working Committee emerge through consensus.
The President subsequently gave the governors 24 hours to draw up a list of the candidates for all positions ahead of the convention.
He stated, “I have already given my own input and other recommendations on the way forward in both my February 25, 2022 meeting with the Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee and my March 13, 2022 letter to the chairman of the APC Governors Forum.
“Your Excellencies. With the convention only two days away I implore you to come together and sort out all the remaining party positions so that within the next 24 hours we can arrive at a unity list which we can take to the convention.
“Finally all those who have bought forms indicating interest and have been dropped should have their money refunded without delay.”
Buhari specifically told the governors to put the interest of the party ahead of theirs as it would be disastrous for the Peoples Democratic Party to return to power in 2023.
French Automaker, Renault Suspends Industrial Activities In Russia
Renault industrial activities in Russia are suspended
Boulogne-Billancourt, March 23rd, 2022 – The Board of Directors of Renault Group met today and approved the following items:
Renault Group activities in its manufacturing plant in Moscow are suspended as of today.
Regarding its stake in AVTOVAZ, Renault Group is assessing the available options, taking into account the current environment, while acting responsibly towards its 45,000 employees in Russia.
Renault Group reminds that it already implements the necessary measures to comply with international sanctions.
Consequently, Renault Group has to revise its 2022 financial outlook with:
A Group operating margin of around 3% (vs ≥ 4% previously);
A positive automotive operating free cash flow (vs ≥ €1Bn previously).
A non-cash adjustment charge amounting to the accounting value of the consolidated intangible assets, property, plant and equipment and goodwill should be recorded at the time of the 2022 first half results. As of December 31, 2021, this value amounted to 2,195 million euros.
Renault Group remains focused on implementing its Renaulution strategic plan.
The Group will pursue its commercial policy focused on value, strengthen its competitiveness, and accelerate its cost reduction program.
Earlier, Ukraine Foreign Minister, Dymtro Kuleba called for a boycott of Renault for their refusal to stop production in Moscow.
Renault refuses to pull out of Russia. Not that it should surprise anyone when Renault supports a brutal war of aggression in Europe. But mistakes must come with a price, especially when repeated. I call on customers and businesses around the globe to boycott Group Renault.
Kuleba did welcome Renault’s cessation of industrial activities.
I welcome @renaultgroup’s statement on cessation of industrial activities in Russia. Responsible move against the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing barbaric aggression against Ukraine.
Renault is ending its car production in Russia. This is as extraordinary as natural. Renault with its Avtovaz is the biggest car producer in Russia, but it imports 20% of the parts, no longer available.
Probably all Russia car production will stop soon. Western sanctions bite.
50m Igbos will bury PDP If Atiku gets 2023 presidential ticket – Ohanaeze youths
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has asked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to drop his presidential ambition to uphold the unity of the Nigerian nation.
The Igbo group warned that if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, hands the former Vice President its 2023 presidential ticket, it would cause a total disintegration of Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State capital, the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, said the council frowns at what he described as “the undue desperation of Atiku Abubakar to pick the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.”
The Igbo youth group said, “If PDP denies a southeasterner Presidential ticket, the only thing over 50 million Igbo youths must ensure is to keep Nigeria one by massively voting APC presidential candidate from the southeast, and no PDP office/flag from ward level to state level will stand erect in the southeast. We’ll fight PDP like Yakubu Gowon did to keep Nigeria one.
According to the council, “Atiku Abubakar should go to the history line of PDP formation from G34 led by Dr Alex Ekwueme before it became a political party, to ascertain that the southeast has paid the ultimate sacrifice in PDP more than any other zone in Nigeria.”
Speaking further, the group reiterated that southeastern people had contributed to the formation, building, as well as sustaining PDP as the biggest party in Africa.
“Atiku Abubakar’s call to contest in PDP is a call to interrupt the Unity and Peace in Nigeria and such move will lead to National political disaster, anarchy and tribal crises that will sink Nigeria.
“If PDP denies a southeasterner Presidential ticket, the only thing over 50 million Igbo youths must ensure is to keep Nigeria one by massively voting APC Presidential candidate from Southeast, and no PDP office/flag from ward level to state level will stand erect in Southeast. We’ll fight PDP like Yakubu Gowon did to keep Nigeria one.
“PDP must avoid using Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal and other selfish presidential Aspirants that are not from Southeast to disintegrate or cause Nigeria her national unity,” Igboayaka maintained.
“It’s derogatory that Atiku Abubakar boasted how he used Ben Obi and Peter Obi as running mates. Atiku Abubakar should know that if any Nigerian desires to see Nigeria as the ‘Giant of Africa’ as proposed by Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa), then it’s high time he dropped his presidential ambition and support a credible and competent presidential aspirant from Southeast to build the Nigeria of Zik vision,” he stated.
“Atiku Abubakar must awaken his human consciousness and realize that among the Six geo-political Zone in Nigeria, Southeast gave him the overwhelming highest vote, which led the present administration of President Mohammadu Buhari to nick-name Southeastern people 5%. Therefore, it is historical that Atiku Abubakar and PDP family is owing the southeastern people reciprocation gratitude in the 2023 presidential election.”
