The Governing Council of Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale (FUMHSK) visited the temporary and permanent sites of the university yesterday.
The visiting team led by the Board Chairman Dr Ahmadu Barau Banye Salisu arrived the palace of Oduosa Utagba Ogbe where they were received by the palace chiefs.
Speaking after being treated with Ukwuani hospitality, the chairman of the Governing Council Dr Salisu said it was incumbent on them to visit after being inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He said the thrust of the visit was to see realities on ground about the university after which they would plot the graphic for the development and take off of the school. He assured that the university has come to stay and would commence admission in the next academic session.
Dr Salisu urged Ukwuani people to guide the university jealously, stressing that he would use his connection to bring more facilities to the university.
Commemorating the chairman’s position, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Abel Onunu stated that the bureaucratic tussles and bottlenecks have been surmounted and that university is good to go.
During inspection of sites, the Governing Council Boss Dr Ahmadu Barau Banye Salisu applauded the communities for the gift of land and for rehabilitating some of the structures in the temporary site. He tasked the Vice Chancellor to mobilize workforce and put some facilities like toilet, furniture, burglary proof, windows etc in the temporary site.
Umusam Ogbe community on their own volunteered to tar the road linking the ever busy Kwale/Ogume Road within the shortest possible time. Apart from tarring the road, they also promised to use the community fund to erect classroom blocks in the site 1 of the university in the not -too-distant future.
The sites visited were the temporary site at Utagba Ogbe Technical College, Kwale, Umuseti/Ebendo site, Umusam Ogbe site and the General Hospital, Kwale.
Among the visiting team were Dr Ahmadu Barau Banye Salisu, Chairman, Mrs Oluwatosin Aragbaye Gbolagunte, Member, Omooba Kehinde Akanimodo Adekunle, Member, Prof Abel Onunu, Vice Chancellor, Ohwojeroh Lucky Mustapha, Registrar, Mr Solomon Akintayo, Bursar among others.
