Tinubu now has three spokespersons – Onanuga

Nov 20, 2024

President Bola Tinubu has re-designated the roles of two key officials within the State House media and communications team to optimize the government’s communication strategy.

A statement released by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on communication and strategy, confirmed the adjustments aimed at enhancing efficiency in disseminating government policies and decisions.

Sunday Dare, previously serving as the special adviser on public communication and national orientation, will now assume the title of special adviser on media and public communications. Similarly, Daniel Bwala, who was recently appointed as special adviser on media and public communication, will now serve as the special adviser on policy communication.

Onanuga clarified that the redesignations reinforce a collective approach to presidential communication. “These appointments, along with the existing role of special adviser, information and strategy, underscore that there is no single individual spokesperson for the presidency,” he stated. “Instead, all three special advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions, and engagements.”

The changes come amid public speculation following Bwala’s announcement on social media, where he identified himself as the presidential spokesperson. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bwala said, “Today, I resumed officially as the Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications/Spokesperson (State House). I am happy to have joined a meeting of the robust and fantastic communication team of Mr. President. I love the existing unity among the team and hope we can leverage on that even for more synergy.”
