Worried by the declined in the educational sector, the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education has advanced ways for teachers for optimal service delivery.
The training workshop, themed; ” Improving Service Delivery Through Effective Classroom, Office Management for the Enhancement of the MORE AGENDA in secondary Education” was to improve standard in schools.
Addressing the participants at the training, the Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon Charles Emetulu, highlighted the importance of training and retraining of teachers, who in turn will impact on the students as better citizens of the society.
Honourable Emetulu flanked by other members of the Committee, emphasized the place of capacity building for teaching and non-teaching staff in the educational sector cannot be overemphasized saying such training will improves the quality of services.
Emetulu expressed satisfaction at His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State led administration for giving priority to the training and retraining of teachers across the state, just he urged participants not to take the opportunity for granted.
He said; “I like the fact that the present administration is giving priority to the training of teachers, which must not be taken for granted. I urge those of you who are participating in this training to take it seriously”
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, said without effective management, even the best educational policies will fall short of delivering expected outcomes.
Ezewu commended the State Governor for approving the training exercise, noting that the programme affords an opportunity for self reflection and development to adopt best practices in planning, communication, supervision, record keeping, conflict resolution and the use of data in decision-making.
On his part, the Chairman of Post Primary Education Board, Dr. Emmanuel Tibi, disclosed the urgency towards improving service delivery in the secondary schools system across the state.
Tidi maintained that the board was not resting on its oars at achieving optimal performance of teaching and non teaching staff in secondary schools, saying that standards will further promote the MORE mantra of the state government in the education sector.
The Director, Recruitment and Training, PPEB, Mrs Campaign Preyor, had stressed on the objectives of the programme, which seeks, among other things, to build the capacity of the workforce of both teaching and non teaching staff in the Secondary Schools across Delta state.
