Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 gubernatorial election following a resounding victory in the party’s primary election held on Thursday.
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Engr. Victor Abba, who announced the result at the party secretariat in Asaba, venue of the collation centre for the primary, praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise and commended party members for their unity and maturity throughout the process.
According to him, the successful conduct of the primary reflected the growing strength and cohesion of the APC in Delta State.
“We have seen what has happened in Delta State, and we are satisfied. The maturity of politics in this state is second to none,” he stated.
Abba also lauded Governor Oborevwori for what he described as “spectacular programmes,” infrastructural development, and people-oriented governance, noting that the administration had made the APC proud in the state.
He said the governor’s performance had contributed significantly to the seamless integration and growing acceptance of the APC across Delta State.
“I, Engineer Sir Victor Abba, Chairman of the Delta Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer for the Delta State Governorship Primary Election held on the 21st day of May, 2026, hereby certify that the aspirant, Right Honourable Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, scored 345,375 votes,” he declared.
Engr. Abba added that Oborevwori, having satisfied the requirements of the party’s constitution and guidelines and secured the highest number of valid votes cast, was duly declared winner and returned elected as the APC governorship candidate for Delta State.
The outcome further consolidates Oborevwori’s hold on the APC structure in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders expressing confidence that the governor’s performance and growing support base would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.
In his remarks, the APC chairman in the state, Solomon Areyenka, expressed appreciation to members of the party for their unflinching support to the party, adding that they should mobilize adequate support for the re-election of the Governor in the 2027 general elections in the country.
