Delta State Ministry for Oil and Gas has warned Liquified Petroleum Gas,(LPG) retailers to halt operations of businesses in residential areas, while enumerating it hazards.
The commissioner, Chief Vincent Oyibode gave the stern warning
during a sensitisation tour within the state capital to ensure compliance by residents., With the theme: “Safety Tips On Handling of LGP”
Speaking during the occasion, Oyibode revealed that, the ministry monitoring team and compliance department will commence it monitoring activities this year and those found culpable would face law, just as he reaffirmed that the oil ministry would not tolerate unwholesome practices.
According to him “
the ministry’s monitoring team and compliance department is set to commence this year’s monitoring activities and those found culpable would face the law, the ministry would not tolerate unwholesome practices”.
Oyibode added that “the state government is continuously ensuring industry best practices, saying Oborevwori MORE Agenda entails creating and maintaining a conducive environment for oil and gas businesses to thrive”.
The Commissioner urged both LPG retailers and consumers to adhere to the safety measures to avoid gas explosion in the state, while dish out some safety measures as; avoiding shaking of gas cylinder with content, check house regularly to detect cracks, installation of fire extinguisher in shops and homes and among others.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, of the ministry, Mr. Frank Omoko charged LPG retailers to adhered strictly to the safety measures and other regulatory requirements in their business.
Omoko disclosed that past sensitizations has helped to reduce cases of fire incidence in LPG retailing outlet in the state, adding that yesterday’s ( Wednesday) exercise was to raise the stake of safety practices in the state.
On his part, the chief fire superintendent, fire service command, Delta State, Asaba, Mr. Isaac Sunday also warned retailers against exposing cylinder with content to heat, stating that the content in the tankers should be properly locked to avoid explosion.
Sunday advised operators to avoid direct contact with any source of emission, naked lights and direct sunlight with cylinders with content in their shops.
The Chairman of Okpanam Gas Union, Mr. Gabriel Elue commended the state government effort for the program to ensure the safety of Deltans.
Elue assured the state government that the union would complied with the various safety tips for the safety of lives and property in the state in the cause of running their LPG businesses.
