Delta State Government has said it won’t disappoint workers on the N70,000 minimum wage passed by the Senate during plenaries.
The state commissioner for information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuaza, disclosed this on Tuesday at his office in Asaba while fielding questions from newsmen on the new minimum wage passed by the upper chamber, noted that not minding the over fifty thousand work force in the state, the Oborevwori led government will not be found wanting.
According to the Commissioner, “whatever the outcome is, Delta state government that you know has never failed to pay civil servants their wages as at when due. Delta state is one of the first states that implemented the N30,000 thousand Naira minimum wages, and this time around, I don’t see the state government defaulting if it is generally agreed by the Governor’s forum”.
Osuaza further disclosed that PDP “Governor’s recently held a meeting in Enugu state and N70,000 thousand minimum wage was a major part of the issues raised; they have not come up with a joint statement in respect of the agreement Mr. President has reached with labour, but as soon as we have it, our civil servants should be rest assured the state government will not be found wanting” he said.
Recall that “the Senate on Tuesday speedily passed the National Minimum Wage Act 2019 (Amendment Bill)”.
The bill, had scaled second and third readings, just minutes after it was transmitted by President Bola Tinubu, was instantly passed by the upper chamber.
